Tatami for Temples & Tea Rooms / Kyoto

Grade: Tosa
Heri (border): Black
Filling(Toko): Kenzaidoko

We had the honor of replacing the tatami in a tea room at Joshoji Temple in Takagamine, Kyoto.

Although the tea room was designed according to the Edoma standard, we incorporated Kyoma-sized tatami for the host’s tatami and along both sides of the room, with ease of tea preparation and movement in mind.

Using the Kyoma-sized tatami as the basis, we carefully adjusted the layout by combining them with custom-sized tatami to accommodate the remaining spaces.

This approach allowed us to create a tatami layout that considers not only the dimensions of the room, but also the practical use of the space for tea ceremony.

Thank you for choosing our tatami for this historic and beautifully atmospheric tea room.
